Jocelyn Velásquez Báez

Jocelyn Velásquez Báez is a first-generation Indigenous student pursuing her education in the STEM field. Her identity is tied to the K'iche' Maya people from Totonicapán, Guatemala and the Nahuatl people from Puebla, México. She aspires to become a physician with a strong public health perspective to holistically attend to Indigenous peoples' health while strengthening their health systems by translating research into changes in practice and policy. As a columnist, she wants to actively research and write about issues prevalent in different Indigenous groups across the world in order to amplify the Indigenous voices and address potential solutions. In her free time, she enjoys reading books by Indigenous authors, traveling, hiking in nature, and dancing.
